The Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology (SPPP; Division 39 of APA) is pleased to announce the Division’s Scholars Program. We are calling for applications for this program from students or early career professionals who have an interest in psychoanalytic psychology/psychoanalysis. The program will run from the SPPP Spring Meeting on April 3-6, 2025  until the Spring Meeting in April 2026.

The Scholars Program is sponsored by several sections and committees within the Division, including

  • Free registration for the Washington, D.C. spring meeting
  • mentor with whom the Scholar will meet at least monthly
  • Subscriptions to all Division 39 publications
  • Free access to Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing (PEP-Web)
  • Membership to the Division as well as the section or committee they apply through for the scholarship year.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be currently enrolled as a student as of October 2024

OR

Be an early career professional (up to 10 years post-terminal graduate degree) in clinical psychology or related disciplines, including humanities.

Priority will be given to first-time attendees and those with demonstrated financial need.

Please note: Applicants may apply only once per year and must specify on the application the committee or section to which they are applying. While we recognize that many prospective Scholars may be eligible to apply under multiple committees/sections, given their intersecting identities and roles, we encourage applicants to apply under the section/committee that matches their highest priority for mentorship and engagement with the Division. The Scholars Program is committed to helping Scholars connect with multiple areas of interest within SPPP and providing opportunities for cross-committee engagement. Additionally, the number of Scholar slots sponsored by each section and committee is proportional to the number of applications they receive; that is, no section or committee is more or less competitive than any other.

*Applicants are encouraged to submit their application early. In order for committees to make timely decisions and give applicants ample notice to obtain visas and make travel plans, we are not able to extend the application deadline.

**Local chapters have a separate application process. If you choose to apply through a local chapter, please do not complete the central application on this page. If you apply through this page to a national committee or section, please do not apply to a local chapter in the same year.
